Meeting Neighbours

(photo re-touched in photoshop - chalk effect)

We met our neighbours on the road today while out for the bike ride. We'd never actually met these people before and we've lived here for ten years. We're quite close with our neighbours next to us and across, but we've just never happened upon this couple until now. I enjoyed speaking with them. We had a nice long chat. Also, they solved a mystery. We have a bonfire and fireworks party every winter to commemorate Guy Fawkes Day. Last year the bonfire was huge. It was scary actually. Neighbours and friends throughout the year had been putting their brush on the pile. Well, all of those dry dry branches lit up like an inferno for about 20 min. After it had died down a police car arrived. Because we had a fire permit they seemed satisfied. Of course, the fire was no longer an inferno at that point. We totally understood why someone would call the fire department; we've just always been curious as to who it had been. Well, these neighbours told us that it was their daughter that had called the police. That night she had been visiting and had seen the tall flames and got worried. I don't blame her! Today we had a chuckle over it, and I invited them to come to the bonfire this year.

I've met a few in our neighbourhood...but don't run into them much. Dawn has met a number of our neighbours but I would like to get to know ours better. The kids have met quite a few from their walks. Glad we met you too...and its too bad we don't see more of each other since we both home school. In time.....
