So far

The teacher from our homeschool program came today for a home visit. She will come once per month. This is too hands –on for many homeschoolers, but I always enjoy the visit. The kids look forward to her coming over as well. Dd read two books to her and ds played a tune on the keyboard.

Ds was getting himself rather excited during the visit, and I was imagining a tough time getting him settled for work after she left. So, I got him and dd to run a couple of times to and from the gate down the driveway. When they came in they had a light snack and I began reading “Wheels of Time – A Biography of Henry Ford”. We got this book from the library to compliment ds’s project on cars. I really enjoyed how the book is written. The kids seemed to as well.

We went downstairs next and they wrote in their journals. Surprisingly ds wrote enthusiastically. He was excited at the prospect of filling nearly three pages of those half and half scribblers. He looked proud of himself. Dd wrote two sentences which is wonderful. She didn’t enjoy herself as much, but this is new to her.

Then ds wrote some words in his new spell book. He seemed to enjoy doing that, too. Afterward I introduced the sound “ight” in our Sound City. The kids had a great time thinking up “ight” words. Next we made a poster of “Fun” words. DS uses the word “fun” frequently in his writing. I thought it time that we introduced some alternatives. I put these on a poster and taped it the wall. Subsequently when they were jumping around playing it was cute to hear them saying “this is enjoyable” or “delightful”.

Now, I’m off to make lunch. We’ll go for a bike ride after lunch (or rather they’ll ride and I’ll speed walk!) and perhaps a nature walk as well.

I am so delighted at the enthusiasm of "writing in one's journal".

I do hope they will continue with this theme - as it is so rewarding and reflective to look back on.

Congratulations
