Airport Reunions

Friday was a good day. Swimming was fun. The pool that we went to had recently been renovated, and the kids' part was awesome. We were there the whole morning. After swimming we took my friend's son home - his initial is L, too. (how 'bout that) He's a great kid. He spent the rest of the day with us. He and ds always seem to have a lot of fun. L has a wonderful imagination with lego, and with ds they create many stories. At 5:00 we took him back to his mom, and then the kids and I met my parents for supper. We hung out at their place until it was time to pick up Adrian from the airport at 9:00. He was on a business trip this week in Colorado.
We parked and went inside the airport to wait for Adrian at the arrivals gate. When we were waiting for him to come out, I couldn't help thinking of that movie "Love Actually" while I watched loved ones reunite with each other. People's faces just lit up when they saw the person whose was there to greet them. Warm embraces, pats on the back, even shaking hands - all with huge smiles on their faces. It warmed my heart. Then, of course, there was our own loved one that came through the doors. He was only gone a week, but we missed him. The kids shouted "daddy!" and ran into his arms. I could see how happy that made him. And I've learned from experience that there isn't any use trying to tell him anything on the ride home. The kids are constantly talking: "Daddy, this" and "Daddy, that" This time he was full of news from his trip as well. Colorado was beautiful, he said; I'm wishing I sent the camera along with him.

Today, I spent the day painting...again. I got the first coat of the Venetian plaster put on. That was a lot of work. If I can move my arms I intend to do the second coat tomorrow. Then I've got to tackle the steps on the spiral staircase. The wood isn't nice so they have to be painted. When we moved in they were a dark glossy brown. Verrry slippery. I nearly broke my back on them once. A few years ago when we first began renos I mixed special sand in the paint that I used. Great idea for not slipping; bad idea for keeping clean. Every little bit of dirt gets trapped in those grains of sand. So, I've got clean the steps and re-paint them. Now here's a bold idea. Are ya ready? The walls are this Tuscan Sun colour (a kind of sandy yellow), and I'm thinking of painting the steps...red! A deep dark red. If it looks terrible I can change it right?

While I was painting the kids wanted to carve the pumpkins; we got them started by cutting the tops of so that they clean out the insides. That's the stage those are at - they need to be finished tomorrow as well.

For supper, we got take-out. I had no energy for cooking. We got curry from a great place in the city - India Grill. Yummm. I'm very full right now. My favourite thing about take-out is left overs the next day. How can I be thinking about tomorrow's meal while I'm still stuffed from today's? It's a mystery.

MMm India Take-Out sounds great. I'll have to write the name down for the next time we're in town and want to bring some take-out home. Love how you described the airport scene. So true!

I remember when I used to come home from Ft. Mac and all four kids would come running out to greet me...even in the winter with no shoes and sometimes no socks. But it made me feel wonderful. I know how Adrian felt.
