Sunday...

On Sunday I went to see my best friend in the hospital. Her appendix burst on Thursday night. She didn’t know that it had burst. She thought that she had food poisoning. She suffered with the pain all night and most of Friday until she finally went to the doctor. Then they transferred her to the hospital. When I saw her she was still in quite a bit of pain from surgery. She’ll be home next week, but, of course, it’s difficult to see someone you love in such pain.

When I came home it was mid-afternoon and hot! There was plenty of yard work that could have been done, but I decided instead to sit in the shade with the children. They road their bikes back forth on the driveway. Then sat with me, and ate peaches while I read to them. Then they went back to riding their bikes, and so on. It was a lovely time.

Eventually I went in the house to prepare dinner. That’s when the mess began. Adrian had begun to drain the pool that morning with the hose. (Last year we let all out in one go by pushing down on the sides.) He put the hose down the well so that we wouldn’t have a big lake in the yard. Ds and dd had used the water a little bit to wash their bikes while I was gone to see my friend. When I was in the house however they saw an opportunity. There was a patch of dirt beside the driveway…you know where I’m going with this, right? They took the water and created a mud hole. Oh yeah, and earlier (on Daddy's watch!) dd got into the make-up and decided to paint her face. That's why she looks a cartoon character here! Sigh. At least they had fun. Right?
