New cots

I am sick and tired of dealing with air mattresses when we go camping. I've bought a couple new ones every year and they always end up leaking every year. Then there's the pain of having to blow them up. No I don't actually blow them up myself, but even just fussing about with the pump. Using a manual foot pump takes forever, and the battery/plug-in ones are so darn loud. Isn't it annoying when you go to a camp ground and hear all of those pumps humming all over the place? I mean, whatever. It has to be done. But it's still annoying.
So, yesterday I went and bought a cot for each of us. Adrian already had one for hunting. We set them up last night, and, of course, the kids wanted to try them out. Next thing we know they're cuddled up watching a movie.
I'm looking forward to using them this weekend. We're going out with the Junior Forest Wardens. The weather sounds like it's going to be terrible with wind and rain, but ah well. At least we'll be off the ground!

We use thermarest pads when we tent camp. They are pretty comfortable and they are easy to roll up and pack. Mostly we use those because we have space issues when we carry gear in packs or on our cataraft. I'm hoping we get a camper soon with BEDS....we had a really nice 5th wheel years ago we sold...I miss it!

I think I've seen those, Heather. Yes, if you're carrying all of your gear you certainly wouldn't want cots! We tend to bring the house with us when we camp.

One day we'd like to get some kind of camper. It'd be so nice for the packing part. Just leave all of the plates, etc. in there.

What is a cataraft?

Cots are way better than air mattresses. However the one we have blows up by itself. The kids use it. And now that we bought a new tent last year, maybe we will do more camping. Doubt it though...

Debbie...I useed to bring a ton of stuff camping...seems like we still bring too much stuff...I have learned the simpler the better on our outings...A cataraft is a raft with these big inflatable tubes. It hooks all together with heavy duty straps...it is what we take on our float trips. It is really safe and a great way to go on an adventure with kiddos!

I have had the exact same problem with air matresses. I think I just might have to try cots.
