We had a great school day at home yesterday even though it started out a little rocky. The kids started off re-writing their paragraphs on heroes. They both chose to write about their dad. First, though, we reviewed character traits that we might value in a hero and had a nice little discussion. Then Ds's teacher came by for her monthly visit. She said he was doing well. He needs a little more practice with his phonics rules, but his comprehension is excellent. I also had an interesting discussion with her about parenting. It was a great visit.
After she left we did some math. They're just finishing up a unit on 3D solid shapes, and they made a cube and a pyramid from marshmallows and straws. They found this very rewarding, of course. Ds got a little sick, though. He said the marshmallows made him dizzy. Strange, heh? He says that whip cream does the same thing to him. We can't figure out if it's an allergy of sorts. He doesn't get the same feeling from candy, etc. I guess, it's not the worst thing in the world to have an intolerance to whip cream and marshmallows, though!

What a cool activity!!! :) I can think of worse allergies than marshmallow so thats not too bad....DS is allergic to jam but still eats it some times...jam and face paints so I figure that isn't too bad either ;) all in all very lucky....some of those allergies out there are NASTY!
We've done that but with mini marshmallows and toothpicks! Lots of fun!!!!!
Very nice activity and we like marshmallows too especially the kids.
I've never seen that done before. It's inexpensive and educational - not to mention it's also tasty!
So cool
