We Love a Real Christmas Tree

I’ve been feeling a little guilty about cutting down real trees for use at Christmas. I hear other people say, “I would NEVER have a real tree unless you could replant it”. When we cut down trees with the JFW, we got a permit, and went to a specific location where we were allowed to cut. But when I saw that big load on the trailer, I wasn’t sure if it was a good thing we had done. I started asking around. Is it bad for the forest/environment? I checked websites, etc. Everyone said that it actually helps the forest. That made me feel better, but I still didn’t feel 100%. Then I saw a show about the environment the other night. They said that most people think that a fake tree is better but a lot of the trees contain polyvinyl chloride. When they break down it’s dangerous to the wildlife, water supply, and ultimately the planet. They actually recommended getting a real tree. Dispose of it properly, of course, to places where they recycle the trees for mulch or something. So, yay, for the real Christmas tree! Be careful, and keep them watered, and then enjoy. Mmmm - they smell nice. Check out the National Christmas Tree Foundation website.

Play Attack of the Mutant Artificial Trees: http://realtrees.kewlbox.com/game.cfm . It's a fun game and you learn some interesting facts about real vs. artificial trees. You will need Active X and it may ask you to download Adobe Shockwave Player. Try the link - I hope it works for you 'cause it's quite funny.

My parents used to have a fake tree. I think my parents still use it.

The agreement in our marriage was, I got a fake tree for the first 15 years of marriage and Gregg gets the next 15 years having a real tree. I sure didn't like the idea the first year but once I saw the beautiful tree Gregg and the kids picked out and the smell...oh my the wonderful smell!!....it's been five year of having a real tree and I really don't think we'll ever go back to fake.
I know this subject is brought up every year on the news and they say...whoever 'they' are...a real tree is much better to have. Maybe I'll pay more attention this year when the subject comes up again as to 'why' real trees are better. You gave some excellent points, love that you researched it.
