When I was doing a search for a nice picture of bells this little tidbit of information came up:"Believe it or not Jingle Bells, one of the most famous American Christmas songs, was originally written for Thanksgiving! The author and composer of Jingle Bells was a minister called James Pierpoint who composed the song in 1857 for children celebrating his Boston Sunday School Thanksgiving. The song was so popular that it was repeated at Christmas, and indeed Jingle Bells has been reprised ever since.The essence of a traditional Christmas is captured in the lyrics of Jingle Bells and the sound effects using the bells have become synonymous with the arrival of Father Christmas or Santa Claus to the delight of children of all ages!"

How interesting. I did not know that..
I heard that Frosty the Snowman was originally written about the Easter Bunny but it was moved to Christmas when the author realized it didn't make sense for a bunny to have two eyes made out of coal.
Don't look up the origin of Christmas...I'm warning you!! :-)
Actually all of Christmas, and for that matter, other so called holidays are not what people think they are. They have only evolved into what people think they are.
That little tidbit about Jungle Bells was in the Journal yesterday. I didn't know that either at the time. Good find!!
Actually, I'm thoroughly interested in the origins of the holidays and traditions we celebrate today.
