Canadian Citizenship Game

Adrian will be taking the test for Canadian Citizenship in a couple of weeks and I decided to make a game for him. It pretty much consumed my whole day.

I used a large poster board. I drew an outline of Canada and pasted maple leafs around the perimeter for the spaces. I put several pictures of animals that you find in Canada all over the board as well as other symbols of Canadian culture. The most time consuming part was typing up the questions and answers on cards.

To play: Starting at the top where the loonie is, your opponent draws a card and asks you a question. If you answer correctly you get to roll the dice and move the appropriate amount of spaces. If you answer incorrectly you must stay put. You take turns moving around the board. Every time you pass the loonie you collect a loonie token. The first one to collect five loonies wins the game. There may be obstacles along the way. "Get stuck on Magnetic Hill - Lose a Turn" or "Stay to visit Niagara Falls - Lose a Turn" or "Pay Income Tax - Give Back 1 Loonie". There may also be some helpers. "Take Confederation Bridge" or "Win the Lottery - Collect 1 Loonie".

We tried the game tonight and it was a lot of fun. I think it's even helping Adrian. Ds was a big help making the game by doing plenty of cutting.

This is a great game and a wonderful way to learn about Canada. Thank you for sharing it.

Cool game!! Hope Adrian does well. Hate to see him deported or something....

There are a number of people at my work who go through this exercise too. One showed me the online document that they needed to study. One thing I thought of while looking at the information and test questions was that I would have trouble staying a Canadian if I had to take that test.

If I decide to emigrate to Canada (the land of my dreams) - I know who to turn too!!
