I am loving my book. I haven’t found a good book to sink into for awhile. It’s almost magical when I find one. I lose track of time, and the world around me gets put on hold for a moment. I’m sure you readers out there can relate. Lately, I’ve been reading mainly non-fiction. Homeschooling subjects. These are interesting, of course, but they don’t compare to a gripping story. The only problem(?) with a great book is that because I’m constantly reading it, all too soon I reach the end. I feel both satisfied and sad when I close the book for that final time. I’m not a fast reader, mind you. I don’t enjoy a story that way. Speed reading is not for me. What’s the rush anyway? I’m in awe of those people who can zip through two or three books in a week. In awe, but not envious. I wonder if they’re really enjoying the book as much as they are consuming the thing. My sister-in-law reads this way. She told me once that she can’t tell you the names of the characters but she can tell you the gist of the story. For her that is enough. When, I’m reading it’s almost as if I’m watching a movie. The descriptions and the characters are all important to help fill in the picture. Mind you, some authors do carry on with their descriptions, and I have to do a little speed reading of my own at that point. And then on the other hand, I have been known to re-read a paragraph or page when there is a good part. Actually, I do that during movies, too! If there is a scene that I find hilarious or moving or even sexy I’ll re-wind and watch it again. Adrian will sometimes even humour me, but I tend to save that neurotic behaviour for when I’m watching a movie on my own. But I digress!
When it comes to stories in general I love to sink in and soak there for awhile. I take pleasure in talking about them with people afterwards, and I couldn’t do that if I’ve just skimmed down the middle of the page. Just like I couldn't watch a movie in fast forward. As for my current gripper I won’t dwell on reaching the end. I’m immersed in the middle with many pages to go and look foward to.

I don't read very many books but when I do I take my time just like you do. I tend to visualize what I am reading and sometimes the mind starts wandering and then have to re-read what I just read. I probably don't read very much as I have to read a lot at work and try to understand what I am reading. Unfortunately, it isn't riveting reading. Enjoy your book. I know how hard Home School Moms work. They need a break...even if it is just to let their minds wander a bit from the daily tasks.
Thanks for the encouragement! My mind wanders too sometimes while I read. It's strange how I can be reading something and still be thinking of something else.
reading can take you away from you day to day life, and that can be a good thing.

I need to do waaaaay more reading if it takes me away from my day to day life. I read manuals and documents all day so reading at night just doesn't enter mind. However, here I am on the internet reading and posting to many blogs and I seem to find time for that.
I'm new to blogging but it's a great way to connect with a variety of people that I might not meet normally. I like how your friend NaughtyVoyeur puts it: "In discovering some blogs, I sort of felt like I was peeping in on people's personal lives". What a great way to escape our own daily lives!
