We went to the lake yesterday with our home-school program. They have been trying to plan this for a couple of weeks, but it keeps getting cancelled due to the weather. As it turned out, though, I don’t think that we could have picked a better day. It was gorgeous! I forgot my camera, of course. Ah well. The autumn colours were just resplendent. Bright yellows, dark greens from the evergreens, oranges, and reds were bordering the trails and reflecting off of the lake. This season occurs every year, and I’m still in awe.
It turned out to be quite warm, too. We used a picnic area that was close to the playground. There are children in the group with ages that range from six to 12, and they play wonderfully together. I spent a lovely day talking with the other moms, and the two teachers. Finding out that one of the teachers goes hunting with her nineteen year old daughter was a surprise. I told her how I used to go with Adrian all of the time before we had children. Apparently, once her children were old enough they always went as a family. I love that.
We went on a little hike, and then enjoyed a wiener roast. Later a few of use watched as the children picked shells (snail that is!) from the beach. That’s when I felt the heat from the day come on. I almost felt like I was on vacation. Finally the children got tired of looking for shells, and it was time to leave. I am looking forward to the year-end picnic in June.
