Chicadee Nest

This spring we watched as some chicadees made a nest in a nearby stump. We enjoyed watching them flutter in and out of the small hole with bits of wood in their beaks. The birds became something that we checked on each morning. Then one day they didn't appear. It semed too early for them to have already had their babies and left. It was around the beginning of April. It was sad to not have them around anymore.

Yesterday when Adrian and ds were splitting logs they decided to cut into the stump to look at the nest. Look at how far down it went. It's amazing the work these little birds can accomplish.

I always marvel at the birds abilities - they could teach us humans - if only we would spend time to watch!!
